The progressive cavity pump operates through the interaction of the rotating eccentric rotor and the stationary elastomeric stator. When the rotor rotates within the stator, cavities are formed and progress from the suction side to the discharge side, conveying the fluid being pumped. However, to make the pump operational, it needs to be coupled with a suitable drive, such as an electric motor or hydraulic system.
